Katie Goodman – Co-Author & Co-Director
Katie Goodman and Soren Kisiel, a wife-husband team, are the creators, writers and directors of Broad Comedy. They are also the co-founders of the Equinox Theatre Company and they do other co-things that led to co-parenting in recent years. Broad Comedy has performed internationally, including on one of Boston’s top stages, the 440-seat Stuart Street Playhouse for a 3-month hit run (not to be confused with their less memorable hit and run), as well as a three-month run at the Acme Comedy Theatre in West Hollywood, at Caroline’s Comedy Club in Times Square on Broadway, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland and at the Vancouver Fringe Theatre Festival where Broad Comedy won the Pick of the Fringe.
Katie and Soren were nominated for the MacArthur Foundation Genius Award for their unique work in theatre. Katie can be seen singing their song, “These Are The Things I Can’t Fucking Remember,” taped for an episode of Showtime’s comedy roundtable series, The Green Room With Paul Provenza.
In addition to Broad Comedy, Katie writes for O, The Oprah Magazine and is the author of Improvisation For The Spirit: Live A Creative, Spontaneous, and Courageous Life Using the Tools of Improv Comedy. She is a founding member of the nationally touring improv comedy troupe, Spontaneous Combustibles. She is a nationally touring public speaker and leads retreats under the title "Improvisation For The Spirit." She was also the founder and producer of the National Women's Theatre Festival in Los Angeles and an Artistic Director of the Philadelphia Women's Theatre Festival. As a frequent flyer, she was recently upgraded to Delta's Elite Status and hopes to work her way up to Pilot status in the next year.
